A Bumper Summer: Harvest Time Arrives
Goodness, it’s the middle of August already, and although possibly hastened by the recent warm weather, that means the main field on our nice farm was harvested over the weekend. The people who farm the land for us usually alternate between planting oilseed rape and winter wheat, the latter being so called because that’s when it’s sown rather than when it’s harvested! But this year they planted spring barley instead, being so called because … well you get the idea.
As you can see from the photos, it’s basically a two-stage process. First, an impressively large combine harvester comes along, which takes the grain and siphons it off to a similarly large collector vehicle from time to time, while leaving the stalks neatly behind it. Then a second machine comes onto the scene, to scoop them up and bail them. No, we have no idea why it spits them out in pairs! And at some future point, another large vehicle will come along to take them all away.

Machines at Work: The Harvesting Process
So, since we don’t have to get out onto the fields to do this ourselves, we can spend our own time doing cool things for Cairn instead, of which a great deal is going on right now. Our “MultiScope” collaboration with Alex Corbett at Exeter University is coming along nicely, and we’ve been able to to make a number of improvements to the basic design, which should significantly increase its utility.
We hope to have a few demo units available in the coming weeks, so do let us know if this may be of interest to you. And as well as all our existing products, we also have one or two other exciting developments going on, although we’re not ready to tell you about those just yet!
So do keep an eye on both the website and our LinkedIn account for further information as and when we are ready to tell more.

Martin’s Back Online
Also Martin our founder, who is still very much with us, has just blown the dust off his personal LinkedIn account, and is likely to post a few further details there from time to time, so don’t say you haven’t been warned!
